Two Major U.S. Water-Efficiency Organizations to Form Partnership

SACRAMENTO—The California Water Efficiency Partnership (CalWEP) and Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE) today announced that they are forming a new partnership, bringing together two of the country’s major organizations dedicated to improving and enhancing water efficiency in California and the United States.

Beginning January 1, 2018, the CalWEP will become a chapter of the Alliance

“This is an outstanding move for advancing water efficiency and conservation,” said Mary Ann Dickinson, who is serving as both the CalWEP Transition Executive Director and AWE President & CEO. “The alignment of these two major organizations provides new focus, unity and resources to advancing water efficiency and leverages each organization’s investments.”

The move comes as the CalWEP, formerly the California Urban Water Conservation Council, undergoes an organizational transformation, from implementing 25-year old best management practices on water conservation into a new entity focused on helping water providers meet emerging legislative and regulatory mandates for Making Water Conservation a California Way of Life.

“As a chapter of the Alliance, CalWEP will have access to all of the resources that the Alliance offers but with a focus on addressing California’s unique issues and providing value to members and California water providers,” said Joe Berg, Chair of the CalWEP Board of Directors. “This new collaboration will allow both organizations to capitalize on the other’s capabilities and to develop programs and tools they otherwise might not have the capacity to accomplish.”

The two organizations currently share members and are collaborating on several projects. CalWEP recently unveiled a new logo that echoes the Alliance’s logo. The logo also includes elements to represent CalWEP’s focus on fostering collaboration among a wide variety of stakeholders. Swirls of blue represent the many voices within CalWEP, whose members include professionals in the water utility, business, non-profit and other sectors.

In addition to the new logo, CalWEP is working to create a new Web site—CalWEP.org—which is expected to be unveiled in early 2018.

Our next membership meeting will be Wednesday, September 20 at the San Jose Water Company.  Please put this on your calendar and plan to attend in person.  We are strongly urging everyone to join us on site for two reasons:  1) We want to have an open membership discussion of the AWE affiliation recommendations, which are an important strategic change for the partnership; and 2) We are reinstating the former plenary tradition of having great keynote speakers and panelists. For September we have a truly killer keynote speaker confirmed:  Jamie Workman of AquaShares will open the meeting and reprise his international keynote talk that he gave at the Efficient2017 conference in Bath, England.  This will be a very interesting presentation about the customer conservation credits trading platform that he is building in Sonoma County at the Valley of the Moon Water District.  This awesome keynote talk should not be missed!

See you in San Jose on Wednesday September 20!

Published on Wednesday, March 08, 2017

We are pleased to announce that the California Urban Water Conservation Council is now the California Water Efficiency Partnership.

The new name communicates a vision for an innovative organization that provides leadership on water efficiency issues in California, and also conveys the spirit of inclusion and collaboration among a wide variety of stakeholders envisioned by the Board and members.

California Water Efficiency Partnership was selected after a comprehensive process that included members submitting more than 50 name suggestions for consideration by the Board, research with water industry stakeholders, and a survey of members for their preferred name.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the name selection process. We look forward to working with you as we continue this organizational transformation. Next up: the development of a new logo.
