DWR Water Use Efficiency Listening Session

The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) has scheduled two Public Listening Sessions regarding implementation of two specific projects as part of the 2009 Water Conservation Act (Senate Bill X7 7). These first Listening Sessions will focus on the urban technical methodologies and a fourth method for calculating urban water use targets as required by the Water Conservation Act of 2009.

Date 2: Wednesday, March 10th, Los Angeles, CA

Time for Both Sessions: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

The intent of the Listening Session is to provide DWR with public views on technical methodologies and a water use target method at the beginning of DWR’s implementation process for the water conservation act. DWR would like feedback on possible approaches and assistance in identifying feasible calculation methodologies and identifying possible data sources for technical methodologies and a water use target method. Stakeholder input is needed to decide on the proper approach to meet the legislative requirements.

Urban Technical Methodologies Project - Water Code Section 10608.20(h)

Objective: DWR through a public process and in consultation with the CUWCC, shall develop technical methodologies for calculating base daily per capita water use, baseline CII water use, compliance daily per capita water use, gross water use, service area population, indoor residential water use, landscape area water use, and criteria for consistent implementation.

Deliverables: Completed methodologies posted on DWR’s website

Timeframe: January 2010 to October 1, 2010

Urban Water Use Target Method Project - Water Code Section 10608.20(b)(4)

Objective: Develop an urban water use per capita target method through a public process that results in a 20% reduction in per capita water use by December 31, 2020.

Deliverables: Report to the legislature describing the method

Timeframe: January 2010 to December 31, 2010
